In honor of Women’s History Month, 2Leaf Press launches the hashtag #TrailblazerTuesdays to promote its forthcoming six-volume biographical series, TRAILBLAZERS, BLACK WOMEN WHO HELPED MAKE AMERICA GREAT, an ongoing campaign that will appear on all its social media platforms. 2Leaf Press, a Black/Brown female-led press, is using #TrailblazersTuesdays to acknowledge Black women trailblazers who have helped make America what it is today. Written by Gabrielle David, TRAILBLAZERS, which closely examine the lives and careers of over 400 brilliant Black women from the eighteenth century, will be released over the course of 2021 and 2022. Volume 1 features activists, dancers and athletes, and will publish April 2021.
The TRAILBLAZERS series’ overall objective is to savor the triumphs of the human spirit by honoring the Black women who blazed a trail and paved the way for the women who dared to pick up the torch to follow. What binds these women together is that they shook-up the status quo, broke barriers, and set standards as they struggled on the front lines. Unfortunately, the issue of erasure—the phenomenon of rendering marginalized groups practically invisible due to lack of recognition and discrepancies in who has the power to document history—often obscures many Black stories. As a result, there are many artists, activists, politicians, businesswomen, scientists, and educators who have become the unsung, the forgotten, and erased trailblazers. The TRAILBLAZERS series seeks to correct that.
Social Media Manager Taylor Hoffman, who is a college intern from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, conceived the #TrailblazersTuesdays campaign. “As a Black/Brown female-led press,” says Hoffman, “2Leaf Press is especially interested in promoting the interests of women of color. TRAILBLAZERS celebrates the accomplishments of Black women, past and present. In 2021, a year when Black women are taking center stage in politics, athletics, art, literature, and more, we wanted to recognize the women who forged the paths that they walk today. No matter your skin color or background, we believe that we all can and should take inspiration from these trailblazers. We hope that by sharing their stories each week, we can also bring recognition to the Black women who are making history here and now.”
#TrailblazersTuesdays also features women who are not featured in the TRAILBLAZERS series. This month, #TrailblazersTuesdays will spotlight powerful and talented Black women like Shonda Rhimes, Jade Jones, Camille A. Brown, and Lezley McSpadden. 2Leaf Press’ goal is to educate and inspire the public with these “golden nuggets” of information to encourage people to learn more about these amazing women in its forthcoming six-volume biographical, TRAILBLAZERS, which is available for pre-order on all major online outlets.
