2Leaf Press poet Jesús Papoleto Meléndez, author of Hey Yo! Yo Soy, is appearing at Lincoln Center’s annual Out-of-Doors La Casita event. La Casita offers urban poetry, spoken word, and the musical and poetic expressions of traditional and contemporary cultures in two marathon performances featuring 15 artists presented in consecutive days: Saturday, August 3rd, 12 PM-5 PM at Hearst Plaza/Lincoln Center, 165 W. 65th St., and on Sunday, August 4th, 3 PM-8 PM at Teatro Pregones, 571 Walton Avenue in the Bronx.
La Casita is part of a series of retrospective performances in honor of the late poet-performer and professor Sekou Sundiata and his influential art entitled “Blink Your Eyes: Sekou Sundiata Revisited” is taking place from April–October 2013. Sundiata performed at La Casita’s inaugural edition in 2001. The August 3rd and 4th line-up includes:

The event is being emceed by David Gonzalez, who will share the poetry of Sekou Sundiata between the sets of the invited spoken word and musical artists.
La Casita 2013 is part of Blink Your Eyes: Sekou Sundiata Revisited, a seven-month, New York City-wide retrospective featuring theater, poetry, music concerts, and humanities events curated and produced by MAPP International Productions through a major partnership of 17 cultural and educational institutions.
