2Leaf Press is pleased to announce that it’s seeking submissions for its forthcoming anthology, WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE WHITE IN AMERICA, scheduled to be released Spring 2016.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE WHITE IN AMERICA is a daring collection of stories and essays that asks just that: What does it mean to be white in a society that proclaims race meaningless yet is deeply divided by race? In recent years, race relations in the US has found itself front and center in the national discourse. We are at an interesting crossroads right now and our biggest challenge — that is in some ways even more difficult — is eradicating institutional racism and inequality. As the U.S. continues to diversify, we need that diversity reflected in the stories we tell, who tells those stories and from what perspective they are told. While race has been well-documented through the lens of an African American, Native American, Asian, Arab, or Latino, white Americans have been less inclined to do so. To that end, WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE WHITE IN AMERICA provides white Americans the opportunity to engage in an honest conversation about race, racism, racist thinking, discrimination, white privilege, and the historical implications that accompany their identity, with first-hand accounts from the Jim Crow and the Civil Rights era to the Millenniums.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE WHITE IN AMERICA is being edited by 2Leaf Press Publisher, Gabrielle David, and UCONN Creative Writing Director and 2Leaf Press author, Sean Frederick Forbes. The Introduction is being written by teacher and racial justice educator, Debby Irving, author of the award-winning book Waking Up White, which tells the story of how she went from well-meaning to well-doing.

For more information, check out our submission guidelines. The deadline is December 1, 2015. Good luck and happy writing.
