2Leaf Press is pleased to announce its publishing partnership with poet, professor and activist, Tony Medina. Beginning spring 2013, 2Leaf Press will publish Broke Baroque, the third in a series of Medina’s Broke Books, with an introduction by Ishmael Reed.

“I hitched my poetry wagon to 2LP because I see it as a new upcoming, dynamic independent publisher that is forward thinking in its multicultural vision, which is sorely lacking in mainstream publishing,” explains Medina. “What makes 2LP unique is that it’s looking to publish books from established and emerging poets, writers and intellectuals, as well as reissue wonderful books from the past. I think this is a good place to be and I look forward to working with 2LP.” In fall 2013, 2Leaf Press will reissue Sermons from the Smell of a Carcass Condemned to Begging, the first Broke Book, which was originally published in 1998 by Long Shot.

Broke, Medina’s iconic everyman’s character bears witness to his plight of homelessness in a humorous yet profound way. With his trademark wit, Medina portrays Broke’s anger, fear, humility, and resolve with humor, insight and compassion, bringing moments of levity and hopefulness to Broke’s plight. The poetry is peppered with subtle images with puns found along lexical fault lines that eloquently convey his marginalization in an unaccommodating society.

Funny and perversely sharp, whimsical and impassioned, Medina’s look at the pleasures and perils of Broke is itself compulsively readable and will connect with any book and poetry lover alike. Stay tune for the unveiling of Broke Baroque’s book cover and Medina’s book video, coming soon at 2LP.
