Samuel Jaye Tanner

SAMUEL JAYE TANNER received his PhD in critical literacy and English education from the University of Minnesota. He taught high school English and drama in the Twin Cities for nearly fifteen years prior to accepting a job as a professor of literacy education in the Pennsylvania State University system. His academic work has appeared in such publications as English Journal and Research in Drama Education. and he is the author of Whiteness, Pedagogy, and Youth in America: Critical Whiteness Studies in the Classroom (Routledge Research in Educational Equality and Diversity) (2018), which advances a distinctive and theoretically robust account of second-wave critical whiteness pedagogy. He published the The Weepy Memoir Trilogy, an amalgam of magical realism and memoir: Shot Across the River Styx (2015), Determined Weeds (2016), Playing with Sharp Objects (2018).
