Maria James-Thiaw

MARIA JAMES-THIAW is professor of writing in the Department of English and Communication at Central Penn College. She is the 2014 Catalyst Award winner from the Harrisburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and CREDC, and winner of the 2014 Award of Poetic Excellence from the National Black Authors Tour. She holds an MS in communication from Shippensburg University, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College. James-Thiaw is the author of three poetry collections, Talking “White” (2013), Rising Waters (2003), and Windows to the Soul (1999), and the spoken word CD, FREEverse (2006). She is a poetry editor for Philadelphia Stories Magazine, The Central Pen and The Triangle; and serves on the board for Nathaniel Gadsden’s Writer’s Wordshop in Harrisburg. Her poetry, news and reviews have appeared in Cutthroat Journal of the Arts, New Letters Literary Magazine, Black Magnolias Magazine and others. She resides in Central Pennsylvania and manages The American Griot Project.
