KIMMIKA WILLIAMS-WITHERSPOON is professor, poet, playwright, lecturer, director, and performance artist. She is an Associate Professor of Urban Theater and Community Engagement in the Theater Department at Temple. A contributing poet to thirty-one anthologies, and the author of eleven books of poetry, she has performed poetry in over 93 national and international venues. She is also the author of Through Smiles and Tears: The History of African American Theater (From Kemet to the Americas) (2011); and The Secret Messages in African American Theater: Hidden Meaning Embedded in Public Discourse (2006). Williams-Witherspoon has had over 29 plays produced, and her stage credits include over 20 productions, and 8 one-woman shows.
