HERBERT HARRIS is a native of Washington, D.C., where he attended Georgetown University. He subsequently obtained an MD and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, and completed his residency training in psychiatry at Yale University. While attending Yale, Harris organized a conference on race and identity, and edited Racial Identity: Psychological Development and Creative Expression (1995), which was based on the conference. His career has included both research and clinical practice, and he has held several research positions in government and industry. He is currently in private practice in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
