Emmanuel Harris II

EMMANUEL HARRIS II is an associate professor of Spanish, and is also an instructor of African American Studies and Latin American Studies courses at University of North Carolina at Wilmington. His articles have published in various academic journals such as the Afro-Hispanic Review and Palara. He was awarded Teacher of the Year in Washington University in 1996, and has a service award established in his name in 2000 at Baker University where he formerly instructed. An author and translator, he has translated Malambo by Lucía Charún-Illescas, which was the first-prize winner of ForeWord Magazine’s Best Translation of 2004. Harris is the English translator of the critically acclaimed collection of short stories, Over the Waves and Other Stories/ Sobre las olas y otros cuentos by Inés María Martiatu. He received his master’s and PhD from Washington University in St. Louis where he was a Chancellor’s Fellow.
