Barbara Beckwith

BARBARA BECKWITH is a journalist and essayist whose writing has been published in more than forty newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Smithsonian, Columbia Journalism Review, Ms., and Essence. Her work has also appeared in the anthologies Inside the Ropes: Sportswriters Get Their Game On (2008), and Season of Adventure (1996); as well as in the White Privilege Conference Journal, and NPR’s Cognoscenti. She is the author of the personal essay series, What Was I Thinking? including her latest volume, Everyday Racism: Questions and Quandaries (2015). Beckwith received her BA from Wellesley College, an MA from Tufts University, and an MA from Boston University. She has been a National Writers Union (UAWLocal 1981) activist and Boston Chapter Steering Committee member since the 1980s, and served three terms on the NWU’s national executive board.
