2LP Submissions
We aren't just looking for authors—we're looking for partners.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a 2Leaf Press author. We are committed to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion and welcome stories from multicultural authors. Please browse our website or catalog for examples of the types of books we publish.
We publish a wide range of nonfiction books that address history, politics, and cultural and contemporary issues (LGBTQ, feminism, multicultural, race), including creative nonfiction, literary criticism, autobiographies, biographies, memoirs, and collections of short stories, essays, personal narratives, and travelogues. We occasionally publish fiction, and while we no longer accept first-time poets, we will continue to consider poetry books from established poets with a track record. Please note that we do not publish young adult, board books, early readers, cookbooks, romance, and self-help books. You may also want to consider submitting books under our 2LP Series, and invite you to review those requirements to see if your book might be a good fit.
2Leaf Press only considers email submissions. Any submissions sent by snail mail will be discarded. Please provide a bio (including your full name, postal address, and your previous publishing experience); a summary of your manuscript (including word count); and a sample chapter within your email (emails with attachments will be automatically deleted) and send only to this email address: gdavid [AT] 2leafpress.org. Submissions sent to other 2Leaf Press email addresses will be automatically deleted.
Unfortunately, due to the volume of manuscripts we receive, we cannot personally respond to every submission. While we try to review and carefully consider submissions promptly, it could take up to 2-3 months to respond, so do not call or obsessively email us for updates on your submission. Please understand that we do not have the manpower to respond to follow-up emails or phone calls, and will only respond to authors whose work fits our criteria. Please email us if you have received an offer for your book and would like to rescind your submission.
Our hands-on approach to working with authors is like no other publisher’s. We work hard for our authors, and collaborate with them at every step of the publishing process. If your book is selected, our editorial team will work with you to develop your manuscript into the best book it can be. Our book designer will help create an unbelievable design to help your book stand out.
But while we give 100 percent to our authors, we expect a lot from them in return. Being a successful published author is a job. When we select your book, we invest in you, and we expect the same from you. That means once you have the finished book in hand, your work is just beginning. We expect our authors to play an active role in promoting their books—with guidance from our marketing team of interns and our distributor, University of Chicago Press. We aren’t just looking for authors—we’re looking for team players and advocates for the press.
Good luck with your submission.
