Submission Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in 2Leaf Press.
We are an imprint operated by the Intercultural Alliance of Artists & Scholars, Inc.(IAAS), a NY-based nonprofit organization that promotes multicultural literature and literacy. We’re interested in publishing literary works — specifically poetry, memoir, narratives, and non-fiction, anthologies and collections of essays and short stories, novels, and historical works as they pertain to literature. We’re looking for strong writing, an original approach, and intelligence in concept and execution.
We publish our books using print-on-demand and will make titles available on Kindle and iPad. Our standard print specs are 6.14 x 9.21 inches, 4-color glossy cover with either a white or cream interior. Minimum page count is 96; Maximum is 600. We will consider different printing specifications on a case-by-case basis.
Our books are marketed online through our website, our mailing lists, publicity campaign (press releases), blogs, and library subscription services. Books are available for sale at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Alibris.com, and other online outlets. Writers will be given an amount of books once their book publishes. Additional copies are at cost (approximately $4.00 per book, depending on page length and specs).
Since we are a small press, we can only publish a limited number of original titles each year. We strive to select manuscripts that represent the highest quality, and consider and respond to manuscripts that are submitted according to our guidelines below.
Cover Letter. Please include with your submission: a cover letter, marketing ideas, information about competitive titles, and a resume or curriculum vitae, which must include pertinent biographical information about yourself and your writing background. Give as much information as possible to help us make an informed decision. Brevity is appreciated.
Manuscript. We review full manuscripts only. When submitting book length manuscripts, please follow our manuscript guidelines at 2Leaf Tip: Preparing Your Manuscript. Poems should be submitted as they appear in final form, using page breaks after each poem. We accept .rtf, .doc, or .docx formats only. Artwork and photography should be submitted in a separate PDF file, indicating where each piece will appear in the book.
Submission. We only accept email submissions. Your submission should include an attachment of your cover letter, your manuscript and a PDF of artwork for the book., to be emailed to info [at] 2leafpress.org.
Simultaneous submissions are OK, but you must indicate this in your query. You must also inform 2Leaf Press if another press has accepted your manuscript. Please do not submit multiple manuscripts. We will review one manuscript per author only.
If your manuscript has been previously published, i.e. through another publisher, please let us know. As long as you own the copyright, we can consider your work.
Submissions will only be read during February (for Fall publication) and July (for Spring publication) by our editorial board, and our response time is approximately 2 months. If your manuscript is accepted, we will contact you and send you our contract. As soon as the contract is accepted and signed by both parties, you will be expected to provide copyright clearance for any artwork, photographs or literary excerpts you may have included in your manuscript. You should know that all manuscripts are subject to proofreading and editing by our editors. We will, of course, engage in continuous discussions about your manuscript, layout and artwork, including final proofs before your book goes to press.
A final word: Submitting your work to a publisher can be both daunting and exciting, and it is understandable that you will be longing for an answer. However, due to the large number of submissions received, it may take a little bit longer for your work to be considered completely, so please be patient and don’t fret about the status of your manuscript — you’ll definitely hear back as soon as a decision has been reached.
Good luck and we look forward to reviewing your work.
